Alice Springs to Birdsville - NT - SA - QLD

Put the car back together and off we go, heading West into the Macdonnell Ranges! Meeting up with our friends again - Jack and Rachael.

Plenty more lizards and other wildlife to see along the walks.

Admiring the Ochre Pits. These are soft to touch, powdery rocks (used to be used as a paint).

Ormiston Gorge - nice cold swim here.

And then a bit of a hike up to the lookout to dry off.

Cooking dinner that evening on the river.

Dawn, one of many amazing camp sites in the red centre.

Early morning wake up for the saddle hike at Redbank Gorge.

Up, up we go.

Freezing cold swim to finish off the morning. This gorge at Redbank is definitely underrated in the region!

Quick stop in the centre of this crater for lunch.

Camp for the night at Palm Valley.

Start of Palm Valley.

Heading back to the cars after 5km of exploring these 9000 odd palms in this remote oasis.

Stunning free camp for the night with a view of Kings Canyon- they don't get much better than this.

Up early tackling the 6km rim walk at Kings Canyon.

Bit windy near the edge!

Absolutely spectacular!

Never ending views.

Soaking it all in!

On the way to Uluru, quick stop to view Fooluru!

Here's the real deal.

Enjoyed some sun downers here.

Then up early to view the sunrise.

Starting off on the 11km base walk.

Stopped halfway to drop our new album.

The following day at the Olga's - 7.4km Valley of the Winds walk.

On the return, definitely starting to feel all the hiking in the ol' legs.

Last stop before going bush for a while! (2nd last if you count Mt Dare)

Lamberts geographical centre of Australia. Album cover 2.

Camped quite literally in the middle of the country. In other words, furthest from any coast as you could possibly get.

Spotted a few dingos (left) and plenty of cattle on the way.

Quick transit through SA.

Getting a spa treatment at Dalhousie Springs. The water is 38 degrees C! Not as exciting when the forecast is similar.

Day 1: Borrowed a satellite phone at Mt Dare and off we went into the Simpson Desert.

Night 1 in the desert, just at the start of the French Line. Seen no one so far

Day 2: Still not a soul in sight. As they say here "enjoy the silence".

Roxc driving the first leg this morning, one of 1,100 dunes on this route.

550km not including detours, finding our rhythm.

Occasional stops were made for lizards.

Pulling up at camp for the 2nd night. Still haven't seen another car.

We topped up our shower before entering the desert, appreciating it now!

Outback sunsets - preparing for dinner.

Tonight, garlic bread damper made from fresh and on the coals. Delish!

Day 3: There had been some rain a few days earlier, many of the tracks were still soaked.

Our first true obstacle.

Made it! Even if it was a bit dramatic.

Reached the tri-border, had a bit of fun jumping between states here.

One of many more salt lakes to cross that afternoon.

Thought this one would be good to drive through and clean the car, ended up being a boggy mess!

3rd night in the desert, watching more clouds roll in.

Day 4: Clearing Big Red (30m high dune) at sunrise! This was the final dune before leaving the desert and entering civilisation at Birdsville. Here we treated ourselves to breakfast and planned our trip North through Queensland.

Hope the photos do these places some justice. Cya in the next entry!
