In this final post, we make our way home!
Leaving Melbourne - topped up our gas bottle and rotated our tires, ready for the long stint home!
Beginning the Great Ocean Road.
First of many epic stops...The Apostles
After a night in a small town we entered the Grampians.
A few hikes and waterfalls here, before heading towards the VIC/SA border.
First meal in SA. It was worth documenting, as this ended up being proof for WA that we had spent 2 weeks in SA (allowing us to avoid quarantining on re-entry).
Made it to Adelaide. Yes... we did the river cruise.
Fine dining at The Barossa Valley (Seppeltsfield) was tasty!
Chinaman Creek campground. Peaceful here except for the chatty caretaker who came and repeated his 30min story the next morning too.
Next morning heading to Port Augusta - few close calls leaving camp!
44 degrees C today - (the second hottest place in the world that day) impossible to do much other than drive. Even had to have our lunch in the car with the aircon blasting. This was a quick stop in Whyalla.
Trying to find some respite from the heat.
And we found a spot for the afternoon!
Camp that night, tranquil.
The next day, the weather completely changed again!
Plenty of things to do along the Eyre Peninsula, unfortunately this wetlands walk was closed due to maintenance.
Rox instantly making a mess at our friends place in Port Lincoln.
Aus day - Jack takes us sight seeing in Coffin Bay NP.
Demonstrating how soft the sand is here!
We head out to explore Lincoln NP.
One night here, before making our way back in to town.
Plenty of bays to explore.
And some exciting 4x4 tracks along the coast.
Emus and wild life all around.
Taking the long way back through the coastal dune track.
Back at Jack and Rachel's pad organising our G2G pass to get back into WA.
More exploring in the area.
Port Lincoln turning it on for a few days!
Back to the other side of the Peninsula.
1 night in Coffin bay NP - the park is several hours long with plenty of remote camping.
Heading back towards the highway from our camp.
Making our way back North along the Eyre Peninsula.
Rugged coastal tracks, what's not to love!
Another perfect camp for the night.
Next morning heading back to the main drag, hard to get moving with so many things to see.
Unfortunately we missed high tide where this fills up.
Now this is a toilet with a view!
Near Streaky Bay - one of the best swimming holes yet including a friendly visitor.
Getting windy around here now.
Looking for a camp that afternoon - maybe not down this.
The next day - more Pink Lakes!
And we've turned towards home...
The occasional roadside stop. More stubby-holders for Rox to collect!
And plenty of driving to do, good practise for Roxc.. it really is quite a flat plain.
The cliffs on the bite are quite high..
Secluded camp - hiding from the wind and rain.
Next morning, the horrible weather continues. It does motivate you to keep driving though.
Looks like we've made it to the border.
A few questions, a car search and 30 minutes later we were back in our home state!
Beautiful bush camp that night.
Terrible forecasts for Esperance had us change our route - bee lining for Perth.
The shortcut had us stop by Wave Rock.
One more night in the bush - this was our final sunrise before arriving back home after 6 months and 28,000km. What a trip it's been!
